Canvas Connector

Intro

Canvas is an LMS for K-12 educators that includes tools for managing enrollments, sharing documents, submitting assignments, and assigning grades. Use Domo's Canvas connector to retrieve lists of announcements, assignments, calendar events, conversations, and groups from your Canvas account. To learn more about the Canvas API, visit their page (https://canvas.instructure.com/doc/api/index.html).

You connect to your Canvas account in the Data Center. This topic discusses the fields and menus that are specific to the Canvas connector user interface. General information for adding DataSets, setting update schedules, and editing DataSet information is discussed in Adding a DataSet Using a Data Connector.

Prerequisites

To connect to your Canvas account and create a DataSet, you must have a Canvas access token. To obtain an access token, do the following:

  1. Log into your Canvas instance.

  2. Select Account > Settings.

  3. Scroll down to Approved Integration and generate a new access token.

Connecting to Your Canvas Account

This section enumerates the options in the Credentials and Details panes in the Canvas Connector page. The components of the other panes in this page, Scheduling and Name & Describe Your DataSet, are universal across most connector types and are discussed in greater length in Adding a DataSet Using a Data Connector.

Credentials Pane

This pane contains fields for entering credentials to connect to your Canvas account. The following table describes what is needed for each field:

Environment

Enter the environment for your Canvas account (e.g. domo.instructure.com).

Access Token

Enter your Canvas access token. For information about obtaining an access token, see "Prerequisites," above.

Once you have entered valid Canvas credentials, you can use the same account any time you go to create a new Canvas DataSet. You can manage connector accounts in the Accounts tab in the Data Center. For more information about this tab, see Managing User Accounts for Connectors.

Details Pane

This pane contains a primary Reports menu, along with various other menus which may or may not appear depending on the report type you select.

Select the Canvas report you want to run. The following reports are available:

Assignments

Retrieves a list of student assignments from your Canvas account.

Calendar Events

Retrieves a list of calendar events from your Canvas account.

Conversations

Retrieves a list of conversations from your Canvas account.

Courses

Returns a list of courses from your Canvas account.

Groups

Retrieves a list of groups from your Canvas account.

Quizzes

Returns a list of quizzes from your Canvas account.

Course Selection

Select the course you want to retrieve information for.
